Wacky Wednesday

I debated whether or not to post anything today. We would all rather hear from Rachel herself than from one of the rest of us...but I figured maybe this is better than nothing.

Today Rachel has still been battling a fever. They aren't sure what's causing it, but they are watching her very closely. Our main job is to try to make her laugh and to entice her with tempting foods to try to get something down her! Between the fever, chemo, mouth sores and nausea, it's hard to work up an appetite. But we always look for a silver lining...or try to anyway. Tonight her fever came down to 101.3--much better than 103.7 which is what it was earlier today. Not a huge silver lining, but we'll take it!

TTFN (ta ta for now!)

  3. Oh she sounds so miserable. We'll pray that something sounds good for her to eat. I make a mean red velvet cupcake with cream cheese frosting. I'll bring her one if you think it would help. I'm in town until Saturday, then on to Blanding for the 4th of July and family reunioning. You are all in our thoughts and prayers always! Lynette

  4. The Walters love you all!!!
Frost and Marie, I remember sitting with the nurse (Becky, I think) as she said to you, "the only way you can take care of Rachel, and give Rachel what she needs, is to take care of yourselves!!! So please do what you need to so you don't wear yourselves down!
Even if you just walk outside and breath the fresh air for a few minutes! Get your rest!
Rachel I love you and wish I could be there to visit with you...hopefully I can get away before the summer is over to stop by and say hi:)

  5. I hope you are feeling better today.(Thurs) I keep your name in the Vernal Temple and I'm sure it is in many more. I love you all very much and I sorry that you are having this experience. We never know what will come our way. Keep being tough and eat even if it is nasty tasting. Love you Coreyne

  6. Sorry to hear about the NOT-fun stuff that comes with ANC @ 0... You probably already know about it, but have they given you some "chemo-wash"? It's a mouthwash that helps with the mouth sores. I tried it once, but I am allergic to lytocain (sp?) so I can't personally vouch for the effectiveness. But, they said it was a very much sought-after commodity on my floor! I hope you are huddling under that fever-blanket, and that it comes down FAST. I'm so proud of the courage you are showing, and the exercise of good humor that is so much a part of YOU. You can do hard things. ;-) Love ya much. Thinking of you always.

  7. Thanks so much for the updates guys. Being so far away they bring me closer to the family and help me pray for specific things. Rach, please know that you are in my thoughts constantly and looking forward to the time that we can race again and I beat you this time. Remember, I let you win last time because you were so young and needed to feel like a winner. Next time I will not be so obliging. Luv ya lots!! Cherzzz

  8. Maybe a smoothie would do the trick....when I was having chemo they told me...."if it doesn't sound good don't eat or drink it". So maybe have her try what sounds good to her. I drank smoothies and chilled Ensure and Boost too as well as 100% fruit juice popsicles. :-)
