CLINIC 1/1911

Rather than make you all wait until Sunday (when I usually post), I'll tell you a bit about Rachel's clinic visit yesterday. The good news is that her platelets went up from 109,000 to 133,000! That was the good news! Thanks for all of your prayers.

They are still concerned about her intermittent nausea and were hopeful that by now (day +77) she would be done with it. Her liver enzymes were also a bit elevated today, so they are stopping her TPN (IV nutrition) and just giving her fluids with some magnesium in it. This means that she is supposed to double her food intake this week...which is tricky when you don't really have a normal appetite. But she's going to give it a try.

It's hard to hear the doctors say two weeks in a row that she is not where they would like her to be at this point. It's even harder to see the fear in your daughter's eyes when they say that. I know she is scared about what all this means. We just keep telling her that she is making progress--even though it might be slower than we'd all like. She looks and feels better than she has in a long time (other than a silly head ache the past couple of days.)

My goal this week is to keep reminding myself that regardless of what the doctors are saying, I know who is really in charge of Rachel's healing process. I know He is very aware of her and that we have to be patient and trust in Him.

  2. We are praying that Rachel's marrow can be really strong and healthy again so she can be back to her normal energetic self. It was so good to see you guys yesterday. Here's to keeping away from the hospital!

  3. doctors, doctors, doctors! Sometimes I wish they would go to a "positive reenforcement" seminar. Don't they get that you and Rachel are hanging on every word that they say? I have stage 4 cancer and I feel sometimes the doctors don't "get it". You need to hear re-enforcement all along the way.
It seems to me that she is plugging along beautifully. Just keep thinking positive!

  4. Rachel,it was so good to see you last night. You are beautiful. Don't be discouraged by what the doctors told you - just look at how far you've come and how close you are to beating this. A few little bumps in the road are nothing compared to the mountains you have already conquered. Keep the chin up and stay strong - we love you!

  6. I was so happy to see you at our game last night. I do regret that you had to watch our JV team struggle so bad. I just want you to know that I have been following you every step of the way throughout your journey. If I hadn't been so mad after the game I would have grabbed you to tell you myself. I am constantly amazed by your courage!

  7. Remember just because the Doctors say you aren't where they want you to be doesn't mean that you aren't where you are supposed to be. Take your time to heal and let the Savior guide you. He is there and He is blessing you. You have endured so much and now the anticipation of being on the other side of the trial is so strong. Be patient and believe. It will come and you will have the strength of your Savior, your family, and your friends right behind you.
You are amazing and no one can say that you aren't where you are supposed to be! You are greatly loved and prayed for. I wish you the very best!

  8. Sometimes the best medicine is remembering that it is our Heavenly Father in charge. And I also know that He very much is aware understands feels and loves for everything, everyone in your family feels. We will continue to pray and think positive because I believe in the Power of both. I hope you can find something yummy to eat this week Rachel!

  10. Hm. I know of a certain substance that would probably help you to improve your appetite. You can get it in California quite easily...

  11. When I read your blog, I cant help but think... look how far Rachel has come, she is such an amazing and resilient fighter. Marie- As a fellow cancer mom, I understand the fear you feel and having to put all your faith in our Savior. Try not to let 2 weeks discourage you when you have come so far. Know your family is in our prayers constantly. Keep up the good fight Rachel, you're doing great!!!
